In 2014 Earl was appointed Patron and Associate Artist in 2018 to the UK's largest independent producing and presenting house, the Mayflower Theatre.

"Education in theatre serves all participants, irrespective of experience or ability, on so many levels. It provides a safe environment to be creative without judgement and allows an individual to grow both as a human and theatrical practitioner. Everyone on the Engage team holds that very notion in such high regard."

MAYFLOWER THEATRE
ANNOUNCES ASSOCIATE SCHEME

Today Mayflower Theatre have announced their first Associate Scheme. This new initiative creates a group of local and national partners and individual artistes who share the theatre’s vision to create a closer relationship between the audiences and the artists who perform on Mayflower Theatre’s stage. Initial associates include Birmingham Royal Ballet, Earl Carpenter and Artful Scribe.

Michael Ockwell, Chief Executive of Mayflower Theatre said: “ We have focused on widening the programming and offering our audiences opportunities to interact with a variety of wonderful companies that tour to Mayflower Theatre on a regular basis. This new initiative will strengthen our Engage programme reaching out to the local community and supporting education which has been a key part of the development of the theatre over the past 4 years.

Given the success of our dance programme it was a natural move to develop stronger links with our dance companies. The associate scheme confirms our commitment to present these wonderful companies on a regular basis and for us to develop a community programme which uses the performing arts to engage with our local community.
At the same time we have a great local partnership with City Eye and Artful Scribe and have been delighted by the support we have received from our Patron Earl Carpenter and the Olivier Award nominee Simon Slater.”
The full list of associate dance companies includes Birmingham Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, Northern Ballet and ZooNation Dance Company. The local partners are City Eye, the Southampton based Community Digital Film Company and ArtfulScribe, an arts organisation committed to develop and promote literature initiatives.

The associate artists are Earl Carpenter, renowned for having played the titular role in The Phantom of the Opera in the West End and Javert in Les Misérables on Broadway and the West End, Zoie Golding from local dance company ZoieLogic and Simon Slater, composer and actor who has recently composed the music for the National Theatre’s new production of Amadeus. Simon has also been Musical Director of the Mayflower Theatre Summer Youth Projects for the past 4 years.

The Engage department at Mayflower Theatre offers many learning activities throughout the year including: Summer Youth Projects, Mayflower Musical Youth

Theatre Workshops for Adults, Mayflower Theatre Tours, pre and post show talks and a variety of different workshops and an array of other events. The Associate Partners will contribute to the width and breadth of programme to give more local people access to the creative arts.
